Three gear picks we're bringing home to test

Why we test at home first

We would rather tell you how something went in a real home than repeat what a listing says. So before we recommend any gear, it comes home with us. Our cat gets to try it on normal days, with normal mess, and we watch what actually happens.

These are the three picks we have on order. They have not arrived yet, so we have not tested them at home. This post is about why we chose them and what we will look for.

How we will test

  • Time: a few weeks each, not one afternoon
  • Real use: around our usual routine, not a staged photo shoot
  • Safety checks: mounts, seams, charging, and wear
  • Honest notes: if our cat ignores something, we will say so

Pick one: a window hammock

Our cat already spends most mornings on a narrow sill. A suction hammock could give a proper seat with a view, without drilling into a rental wall. We will be checking how well the cups hold over time, how easy the cover is to wash, and whether our cat chooses it over the sofa.

Window hammock with suction cups (Black)

A soft suction-cup bed for window glass, about 55 × 35 cm. Easy to move between sunny spots.

  • Mount: suction cups on clean, smooth glass
  • Size: about 55 × 35 cm
  • Colour shown: Black

We've ordered this to try at home and will share how it goes once it arrives and we've lived with it for a bit.

Pick two: a self-moving ball

Evenings are when our cat gets the zoomies. A ball that rolls and turns on its own might help on nights when we are busy in the kitchen. We will look at noise, how it handles rugs, battery life, and whether the novelty lasts past the first week.

Self-moving interactive ball

A light ball that rolls and changes direction on its own to invite a chase.

  • Use: short, supervised play sessions
  • Best on: clear hard floors or low-pile rugs
  • Put away: after play, so it stays interesting

Pick three: a USB flopping fish

Our cat loves to grab and kick soft toys. A fish that flops back could make that game more fun. We will check the stitching, how the motor sits inside, how easy it is to clean, and how long it holds a charge.

USB flopping fish

A soft fish-shaped toy that flops when touched, so your cat gets something to pounce on and kick.

  • Use: short play bursts, then put away
  • Charging: USB, kept out of reach while it charges
  • Check: seams and fabric after each session

What happens next

Once each piece has had a fair run, we will add an update to this post and the related guides. That will cover how it held up, what our cat thought, and anything we would change. If something does not pass, we will say that too.
